§ 52.20. WATER RATES.

  • There shall be and there are established for the use of the service rendered by the waterworks system of the city the following rates and charges, based on the amount of water supplied during each monthly billing period:
    (A) Metered rates per month.

    (B) Base charge per month. In addition to the monthly metered rates, each user shall pay a monthly base charge in accordance with the following size of water meter installed:

    * The base monthly charge for 5/8-inch meters shall be phased in with the charge being $10 beginning January 1, 2016; $11.50 beginning January 1, 2017; and $13 beginning January 1, 2018.
    ** The base monthly charge for 5/8-inch meters shall be phased in with the charge being $11.45 beginning January 1, 2016; $13.20 beginning January 1, 2017; and $14.89 beginning January 1, 2018.
    (C) Fire protection service.
    (1) Surcharge. In addition to the aforesaid rates and charges, each customer shall pay a fire protection service surcharge based upon the water meter size as follows:

    (2) Private hydrants. Each owner of a private hydrant shall pay an annual rental charge of $353.60 if the hydrant is located inside the city or $404.87 if located outside the city.
    (3) Automatic sprinkler system. Each user employing automatic sprinklers for fire protection shall pay an annual fee in accordance with the following schedule:

    (4) Exemption. Users that have installed their own complete fire protection systems, including water storage facilities, and that do not utilize the city’s fire flow capabilities are exempt from the above fire protection charges. However, such users must reimburse the city for any water provided by the city to fill the users’ water storage facilities. The water charges shall be based upon the above metered usage schedule.
    (D) Bulk water sales. Users that purchase water in bulk from the city shall pay the following:
    Annual program fee $75
    Base charge per occurrence 16
    Volume charge per 1,000 gallons 3.50
    (E) Non-recurring charges. The following schedule of charges is hereby approved.
    Special meter test $40
    Bad check charge maximum allowed pursuant to Indiana law as amended
    (F) Rates and charges outside corporate boundaries. Pursuant to I.C. 8-1.5-3-8.1(d), the above rates and charges for service to property located outside the corporate boundaries impose a rate or charge that is 14.5% higher than for service within the corporate boundaries.
