§ 35.13. ADDITIONAL REGULATIONS REGARDING MEMBERSHIP.

  • (A) No applicant under the age of 18 or over the age of 50 will be accepted for membership as a volunteer on the Volunteer Fire Department.
    (B) Each applicant for membership on the Department shall furnish at his or her expense a physical examination report signed by a practicing physician showing the applicant to be physically qualified to serve as a firefighter.
    (C) Each new member appointed will serve a probationary period of one year, at which time a final decision will be made by the Chief with final approval by the Board of Public Works and Safety, before permanent assignment is made.
    (D) At any time an active member of the Volunteer Fire Department should become permanently disabled to serve as an active member, he shall be taken from the active roll and placed on the inactive roll.
    (E) Any firefighter carried on the active roll shall, on reaching age 70, be taken from the active roll and carried on the inactive roll.
    (F) Any volunteer member of the Fire Department may, at any time because of illness or age, request that he or she be transferred from the status of Active Firefighter to the status of Inactive Volunteer Firefighter.
    (G) An Inactive Volunteer Firefighter may pay his or her dues and enjoy all social functions of the Department, but will not be entitled to any pay, clothing allowances, or car allowance.
    (H) Each member of the Fire or Rescue Unit shall be required annually to have a physical examination which shall be conducted by a physician selected by the city and at its expense. The physical examination report shall show the member to be physically qualified to serve as a firefighter or member of the Rescue Unit.
